Background
In Tamil Thooyamalli literally means pure jasmine. It is white in colour like the jasmine flower and hence the name. A paddy variety named after a flower and harvested in 4 to 6 months. (Thooya means pure, Malli means jasmine). It is widely cultivated in Salem district. Details about this rice variety are mentioned in the Siddha medical texts and in the Pallu Literature.
Special Features
During the flowering stage, the earheads look like flowers. It is a fine variety, which fetches very good price. It is highly resistant to pests and diseases.

This variety is high in protein (9.16 g/100g). It is also rich in iron and magnesium (37.10mg/100g)

It has high fiber content and increases the strength of nerves. This rice variety improves the immunity power of the body.

The rice of this variety is highly suitable for South Indian meals and also for making special dishes like Biriyani, Ghee rice, Pulav and Kolukattai.
It is normally cultivated during Samba (July 15 to January 14).
The rice is white in colour with fine rice quality.
